What You Need:

• A Milk Carton
• Scissors
• Plastic wrap
• Tape
• A pond, lake, or stream

Question: How can you see underwater with out getting wet?

1) First, cut the top and bottom off a clean milk carton container.

2) Then, stretch the plastic wrap over one end and tape it secure.

3) Visit a lake, pond, or stream. Go to the water’s edge and observe any plants and animals you can find.

4) Now, place the bottom of your viewer underwater. Be spellbound by what you can see with your amazing aquavision!

A Scientific Explanation:

Ponds have four main habitats: the water’s edge, the surface, under the water, and the pond’s bottom. You can see insect larvae, worms, frog eggs, tadpoles, fish, and fresh water mollusks under the water and on the bottom of a pond.

Use field guides for your area and identify some of the underwater plants and animals you see. What’s the strangest thing you discovered underwater?
