We are particularly sensitive to the needs of children to continue their learning and to reap the many benefits that literature brings them, especially during these challenging times. The last few months have seen unprecedented change in both the way teachers instruct and children learn.

We at Scholastic have fully supported providing a wide range of online learning activities for kids during a time of school closures, particularly our Scholastic Learn At Home initiative for educators, administrators, and families.

We have approved tens of thousands of requests for permission to read Scholastic books online as part of classroom lessons and other kid-focused outreach. While this read-aloud permission expired with the end of the school year on June 30, 2020, Scholastic remains deeply committed to facilitating and enriching the learning journey throughout the summer.

With that in mind, we invite you and your child to explore Home Base (www.Scholastic.com/homebase), our digital destination where kids can spend time engaging with their favorite authors and characters, discover new books and series, play book-based games, and flex their creativity with a variety of activities. As part of our Summer Reading program, there will be a selection of free books to read online as well as the opportunity for children to track their daily reading progress by logging Reading StreaksTM. You can find an overview of the summer program at www.Scholastic.com/summer.

We hope these other wonderful resources that we’re offering will help enrich your continuing educational efforts throughout the summer. Thank you for all your efforts to enhance remote learning for children. Scholastic is grateful for your partnership as we continue to develop new ways of addressing the needs of parents, teachers and students during these difficult times.

As always, if you have questions about permission to use any Scholastic publications, please write to Scholastic Inc., Attn: Permissions Dept., 557 Broadway, New York, NY 10012, or email Ann Sandhorst at
