Enrique O. Sanchez

Current Home: East Burke, United States of America

Enrique O. Sanchez draws from warm memories of his childhood in the Dominican Republic to create the illustrations in this book. Primarily a fine artist, he has illustrated over thirteen books for children, including, A is for the Americas, Abuela's Weave and Look At Me. He also owns an extensive drum collection. A conga player as well as an artist, he shares his passion for art and music with his son, Aron, who is also a musician and an artist.

His newest Scholastic title, A Doll for Navidades, is chock full of Enrique's vibrant illustrations. A Doll for Navidades tells the story of a house that smells of cinnamon and coconut, where music fills the air, and best of all, the Three Magi will soon bring presents to all of the children. Little Esmeralda hopes they will bring her a baby doll. But instead, she receives something far more precious: She experiences firsthand the magic of giving and the power of her family's love for her. The Spanish translation,, Una Muneca Para El Dia De Reyes, will be published simultaneously.

Enrique lives in East Burke, Vermont with his wife, Joan, a modern dancer.
